How to Beat the Cold

How to Beat the Cold

This week we spent part of our vacation in Quebec City, Canada.  The average high was around -2 ºF.  We thought we were prepared for such cold weather, but within less than five minutes outside we quickly realized we were risking our lives.  After purchasing the right essentials we had a great time exploring Quebec City.  These are the things we learned:

  • bulky fabrics don’t necessarily keep you warmer
  • choosing the right cold weather fabrics and wind-proofing will reduce the cold
  • wearing high quality fabrics like GORE-TEX and Merino wool is key

Foot Warmers

These foot warmers saved my toes from falling off. All you have to do is put them under your socks and they will keep your feet warm for about 8 hours!

 Sorel Caribou Boots

These boots are great for cold weather. Wool socks are just as important, but do not double up. Wearing one pair of socks will keep you warmer.

Wool Hat, Scarves, & Mitten

My hands-down favorite in the winter, which is clothing made with 100 percent wool.

More importantly, make sure your car is prepared to withstand the extreme cold.

How to keep your car safe

  • Before you hit the road, check under the hood and make sure your batteries are good.
  •

What about you?  What do you do to keep safe and warm during frigid temperature?
